Historic Design Hotel

A city with no shortage of charming boutique hotels, Barcelona is crawling with stylish chains and one-off properties housed in period buildings and idyllic locations. But Hotel Neri ranks as one of the best, a refined and understated design property located along the 12th Century Roman walls in the city's Gothic District that's relatively unknown to most Western travelers. The location is a bit hard to navigate in a rental car and even for local taxi drivers, so prepare to walk to main streets to pick up transportation and go anywhere on the quick.

A period brick façade that's actually two conjoined 19th Century buildings, Hotel Neri begins through iron and glass doors into a reception with masonry walls and sweeping staircase. Intimate drawing room off the main lobby leads to a small terrace café, intimate lounge with fireplace and gourmet eatery that's a little-known gem in foodie Barcelona.  With no pool of rooftop lounge, outdoor space at the hotel is limited to an adjacent courtyard privy to occasional performances artists or the hotel's furnished terrace perfect for late summer nights.

The Room

A total of just 22 room ae divided between the hotel’s three floors of guest rooms all of which offer free wi-fi and menu of pillows and bedding that ranges from Irish linen to satin sheets. Standard rooms are compact spaces with simple bed and side table arrangement with courtyard view, small writing desk and attractive bathroom space of exposed stone walls. Junior suites come with a bit more pizzazz of much-larger bathrooms, coffer ceilings and intimate lounge arrangement with walkout terraces A reserved but ever-present staff maintains a 5-star luxury aesthetic as well as offering great insight on entertainment suggestions from restaurants to nightlife.
